The academic year 2018-19 begins in L.D. Arts College with characteristic verve and enthusiasm. It also marks the completion of a successful year in the new campus. The new verdant surroundings with state of the art infrastructure and optimum facilities all helped to make it a memorable year. Once again, in the year that went by, L. D. Arts lived up to the various benchmarks it has continuously been setting in its 81 year old journey. Faculty, Administrative Staff as well as Students adapted well to the changed surroundings even while carrying fond memories of the legacy we left behind. This year also marks the successful completion of the first graduation batch from the new campus.
As I look back over the past year, I cannot help but feel a tremendous sense of satisfaction. The sense of pride that comes from being at the helm of a NAAC accredited 'A' Grade college is accompanied with the zeal to take the college to even greater heights. Once again, the academic year was suffused with vibrant energy and vigorous pursuit of academic as well as extracurricular activities. Outstanding performance by students continues to uphold the tradition of the college. At the national level, our student Ghata Vasavada won the Inter- University Elocution Competition. It was a matter of immense pride for the college that our NSS Coordinator Dr. N.P Verma won the prestigious 'Indira Gandhi National Award'. The award was presented at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by the Hon'ble President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind. It was a first for Gujarat. Our NCC In-Charge Dr. Jagruti Thummar, who had earlier been given the rank of lieutenant, was selected as the Best Assistant Nodal Officer by the NCC Directorate of Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. As the Principal, I acknowledge once again, with pride, the teamwork that has helped to maintain levels of excellence expected of an institute of this stature. My added responsibilities in several academic bodies continue to reinforce my commitment to bring in new ideas that will help us achieve higher levels of excellence. In this spirit, I also continue as Member of the Senate, Gujarat University, Chairman of Board of Studies in Psychology, Executive Council Member and Academic Council Member.
L. D. Arts College has always been known for its high teaching standards. It remains true to its motto of all round development of students through academics and extracurricular activities. Character building and service to society top our priority list. This year too, the college conducted a various commemorative events like Geeta Jayanti and the Mahadev Desai Trophy. The NSS and NCC wings, the CWDC and the various Departments hosted a wide spectrum of academic and cultural activities that drew a diverse pool of talent. Our students excelled once again at the Youth Festival and various inter-college and zonal events. As every year, this year too, the college organized several blood donation camps, tree plantation drives, and awareness programs. In the sports front, the students excelled and won a number of trophies. The college also hosted a successful Alumni Meet.
On the academic front the college lived up to its reputation. The UG level results were 90.21% (Sem V) and the PG level results were 72.94 % (Sem III). In B.A. SEM I, six students, in Sem III, three students and in Sem V, two students, emerged as University rankers securing position in top ten. Several reputed organizations visited the campus for interviews and offered placement to the students. In the month of January the campus was vibrant with the celebration of various days like Environment Day, Traditional Day, Cleanliness Day, Executive Day and Role Model Day. The enthusiasm of the faculty, students and alumni has contributed in making it another successful year for our college.
Once again, as our next batch graduates with dreams and aspirations, I congratulate them and wish them the very best. This year we publish the eleventh issue of our college magazine 'Anjali'. I take this opportunity to extend my good wishes to all who have worked hard. I am confident that 2018- 2019 will once against L. D. Arts scaling new heights.
